Decking specifying FAQs
Where can I get CPD for specifying aluminium decking?
At Ecodek, we provide a dedicated CPD for specifiers working on high-rise decking. The training has been designed to support architects and specifiers, accounting for any and all factors involved in this type of commercial project. From how building regulations have changed (and continue to change) to what the different fire-rating classifications mean, there’s plenty to take from the CPD delivered by our expert team.
For more information, please view our CPD page.
How does a specification for composite decking differ to one for traditional wood decking?
The main differences are the needs for:
- Colour range
- Low-maintenance
- Test certificates
We can provide all of the above with our composite decking collection. The boards are available in multiple colourways, are simple to clean and maintain, and we can provide the necessary certificates and technical data sheets you need for your specification.
Does Ecodek supply decking that meets new fire safety regulations for high-rise buildings?
Yes, we do. The statutory guidance ‘Fire safety: Approved Document B’ was updated in March 2025 to:
- Ban the use of combustible materials for balconies on buildings over 11 metres tall.
- Only allow Class A fire-rated materials to be used on these balconies.
To ensure compliance with these changed regulations, our entire range of aluminium decking boards and components (from pedestals and bearers to support legs and end plates) is non-combustible and classed as A2fl-s1 & A2-s1, d0. We’ve also had them independently tested by a third-party to BS EN 13501-1: 2018.
Head to our aluminium decking page for all the spec details. You can also find more information about the updates to specifying high-rise buildings in our blog: An overview of specifying high-rise balcony decking.
How do you ensure colour and finish consistency across large-scale projects where multiple manufacturing batches are needed?
We ensure all boards in an order are manufactured at the same time, so you can feel confident in a timely supply and consistent aesthetic.
What are your standard lead times from order placement to site delivery for a typical high-rise project?
At Ecodek, our boards have a lead time of two weeks. For details on how we help you manage the procurement process or to place an order, please get in touch with our team.
Do you offer site visits to support contractors with installation training?
We do! We’re more than happy to come to site to support in whatever way we can, whether that’s installation training or education on our non-combustible boards and the fire regulations they adhere to.
We also provide CPD to help specifiers and architects understand the requirements for decking on high-rises: A specifier’s guide to non-combustible decking systems. Head to our CPD page for more information and to arrange a training session.
Can you provide CAD drawings of the decking and substructure assemblies?
