Remedial Works for Rooftop Terrace at McCarthy Stone, Lancaster

The rooftop terrace at McCarthy Stone’s retirement property in Lancaster is a space designed to give residents a quiet place to sit, talk and enjoy the view across the city. By 2026 the existing decking had begun to show its age, so the team wanted a replacement that would feel solid underfoot, stay looking good over time and work reliably in a rooftop environment. They chose Adek Comfort Grip aluminium decking in RAL 7016, supplied in a mix of 30mm boards and universal channel covers to suit the layout of the terrace.

The installation was carried out by Alton Building Services, who managed the full programme of works including roof testing and a craned material lift. Their Company Director, Lee Alton, explained that cost and product quality were the two most important factors for the project. The decking needed to be strong, safe and straightforward for the team to work with, especially given the access requirements of a rooftop installation. Adek met those needs with a profile designed for commercial settings and a Comfort Grip surface that offers reassurance in all weather.

The terrace was finished using two bespoke lengths of Adek 30mm Comfort Grip boards, chosen to suit the layout and reduce on‑site cutting. Universal channel covers were supplied to complete the detailing across the perimeter and transitions. The deep grey RAL 7016 colour gives the terrace a consistent, modern look that sits comfortably against the surrounding architecture.
