We’ll reuse what you don’t need

Our composite decking is made from ‘clean’ recycled HDPE polymer plastic and untreated hardwood flour. We’re able to recycle:

  • Unused excess materials
  • Decking offcuts
  • Used decking in a reasonable* condition

Get £0.45/kilo of materials you return for us to use in our manufacturing process.

*At the discretion of Ecodek. As a minimum, boards should be clean and free from debris and screws.

Taking advantage of our waste buy-back scheme is simple.

  1. Let us know you’d like to return boards or offcuts by calling 01978 667 840 or emailing enquiries@ecodek.co.uk.
  2. Once we’ve approved your request, you can send your offcuts to us.
  3. For all material returned in a suitable condition, we’ll credit you with £0.45/kilo.
  4. We’ll grind down the material and reintroduce it into our manufacturing process to become new decking.

It’s that easy!

Interested in the scheme? Great! But before you ship your boards to us, please make sure you’ve read the information below:

  • Our buy-back offer only applies to Ecodek products sold originally by Ecodek.
  • Advance notification of all returns must be given to Ecodek either by telephone (01978 667 840) or email (enquiries@ecodek.co.uk).
  • All material must have screws removed and be in a clean, dry, and uncontaminated condition to qualify.
  • All material must be fully segregated by individual colour.
  • Materials must be returned by the customer to our manufacturing address or another site by mutual prior agreement.

Please note:

  1. We’re unable to give a full refund for unused boards. All material returned will be treated as scrap and therefore, only creditable as such.

Our composite deck boards are made from 95% recycled and sustainably-sourced raw materials.

  • Around 60% of the material that makes up our boards is sustainably-sourced wood fibre
  • Approximately 35% is recycled HDPE polymer (recycled plastic from consumer waste)

We combine the wood flour with the polymer pellets to manufacture wood-polymer composite decking boards here in the UK.

How does your waste buy-back scheme work?

Ecodek is proud to offer the only buy-back scheme for unwanted or unused decking. If you return your composite deck boards or offcuts to us and we deem them to be in reasonable condition, then we’ll credit you with £0.45/kilo.

Please note, you need to make sure the materials you’d like to return meet our criteria, which includes:

  • Only Ecodek products sold originally by Ecodek are eligible for the scheme
  • You must make us aware of all returns in advance by telephone or email:  01978 667 840 / enquiries@ecodek.co.uk
  • Materials must be returned to our manufacturing address or another site by mutual prior agreement by the customer

Is composite decking recyclable?

Yes, all composite decking boards manufactured and supplied by Ecodek are recyclable. That’s because they:

  • Are made from 95% recycled and sustainably-sourced raw materials
  • Use sustainably-sourced wood fibre, which makes up approximately 60% of the material
  • Are manufactured with HDPE polymer, which makes up around 35% of the material

In our UK factory, we combine the wood flour and polymer pellets to produce wood-polymer composite decking boards. If you order too many boards or have offcuts leftover at the end of your installation, you can return these to us and we’ll happily reuse them in our manufacturing process, helping to reduce demand on virgin materials.

Where can I recycle unwanted decking?

It depends on the materials your decking is made from. As a general guide:

  • Timber decking can usually be recycled at wood recycling centres.
  • Untreated wood decking is typically recyclable at Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). It can also be chipped and added to compost.

Ecodek’s composite decking can be returned to our factory where we’ll recycle it back into our manufacturing process. Scroll up to learn more about this process, part of our waste buy-back scheme.

What should I do with decking offcuts?

Decking offcuts are handy and versatile, and can be repurposed for lots of different DIY projects. Some of our favourite uses include:

  • Planters
  • Benches
  • Shelves
  • Bird feeders
  • Doorstops
  • Tables

If you have offcuts of Ecodek composite boards, then please get in touch. We’ll advise you on whether or not they’re in the right condition for us to buy back from you and reuse them to make other composite decking products.

Are there companies that buy unused decking?

Yes – we’re one of them! In fact, Ecodek is the only UK composite decking manufacturer that will credit customers who return unused boards or decking offcuts. We’ll give you £0.45/kilo of materials returned that we can reuse in our manufacturing process. Please speak to us for more information or to send your boards back to us.

How can I dispose of old decking responsibly?

The most responsible thing to do with your old decking is to see if it can be used elsewhere. You never know, a DIY-savvy neighbour could repurpose it into a lovely garden bench, or a community project could make use of offcuts for landscaping improvements.

Recycling the decking is the next best thing as it avoids valuable materials going to landfill. Check local guidelines to find out what you can take to the recycling centre and where your nearest site is.
