Balcony Decking for a Multi‑Level Waterfront Development, Free Wharf, Shoreham-by-Sea

Free Wharf is a major waterfront development in Shoreham‑by‑Sea, delivering two eight‑storey apartment buildings and 146 new homes for HG Construction. The scheme includes a wide mix of external spaces across multiple levels, with balconies and terraces forming an important part of how residents experience the buildings. Butler Brothers Roofing Ltd were responsible for a large roofing, waterproofing and decking package across Blocks E and F, and approached Ecodek in July 2024 to provide a complete aluminium balcony decking solution.

The project required a system that could perform across numerous balcony shapes, varying sizes and complex layouts. Early engagement was essential. Following a series of meetings, site visits and ongoing technical discussions, Ecodek was awarded the contract and worked closely with Butler Brothers throughout the build. The collaboration continued from the first design conversations through to final installation, with regular coordination helping the team plan for the different balcony configurations across the development.

Ecodek supplied the full aluminium decking package, including 295mm x 20mm Comfort Grip boards in standard 4m, 5m and 6m lengths, together with aluminium bearers and adjustable pedestals. The system offered the durability, low maintenance and consistent finish needed for a large residential scheme close to the water. It also provided the technical clarity required to keep the programme moving, supporting Butler Brothers as they delivered approximately 1,425 m² of decking alongside terrace and podium roofing and waterproofing works.

HG Construction acted as the main contractor, with Ecodek supplying the decking system and providing product and technical support throughout the project lifecycle. The build took just under two years to complete, with careful planning ensuring the decking integrated smoothly with the wider package.
