Low Maintenance Composite Decking

Wood Polymer Composite Decking (also know as WPC decking) has become widely accepted and popular over the past ten years largely due to its “fit and forget” properties.

Like other top quality composite decking products, ecodek® requires no staining, painting or treating throughout its long life. This is because the polymer (plastic) content limits moisture absorption to very small amounts, below 1% for ecodek®*, compared with over 25% for untreated timber. Water absorption is the cause of warping, swelling and distortion in timber products, and is the reason expensive and time consuming treatments are specified to validate any guarantee offered with these products.

Where ecodek® cannot be beaten is in the quality of our materials and the extrusion process itself. Our plastic content is High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) sourced only in the UK to the highest specification. We exclusively use Beech wood flour as our fibre content, again processed to a very demanding specification. After much research we are convinced that hardwood Beech gives the best consistency of strength and colour-fast properties possible and certainly much better than any softwood or multi-sourced natural fibres many imported products use. Our beech flour is sourced from UK saw mills. We’re recycling the off-cuts and the stuff that gets left over.

Unfortunately, as with most exterior building materials ecodek® will require cleaning. We recommend a basic cleaning routine with a composite deck cleaner or combination of soap, hot water and a soft bristle brush. Ideal times to clean are just after installation and then on a semi-annual basis (typically spring or autumn is most conducive with the weather). This will help to maintain the beauty of your ecodek®. For more information on how to care for composite decking we recommend that you read the following Datasheet.
