“Spring is sprung.
The grass is riz.
I wonder where the birdies is?
The bird is on the wing.
Now isn’t that absurd?
I always thought the wing was on the bird!
Spring has sprung, the buds all break;
Spring has sprung and nature wakes.
Spring has sprung, winter’s gone
Now we sing our happy song
Tra-la, la-la, la-la, lay
Sweep the old dead leaves away.”
Now whether you attribute this verse to the great Spike Milligan or to Ogden Nash, it pretty much sums up this fantastic time of year.
Sweeping the old dead leaves away is just one of the many tasks needed in the garden in Spring, and luckily, if you chose wisely when purchasing your decking, getting your ecodek® clean is really VERY simple!
A bi-annual clean is all it takes using a deck cleaning solution and a hose and brush. We recommend you use Saicos,a cleaner which is specifically designed for wood polymer composite decking, that has the added benefit of allowing your deck to maintain an optimum level of slip resistance.
Using our recommended WPC cleaner and a common garden hose is more than enough to clean and restore your ecodek® and if you are having difficulty in removing stains, please email our Customer Care for advice on how best to remove them.
Always make up the cleaning solution as directed on the Saicos bottle and apply to the surface of the deck using a soft mop (or very soft nylon bristle brush) and gently work in to the surface. Allow the solution to sit for 15-20 minutes. The best way of loosening dirt and debris is by using a soft brush.
Go over the surface again with any remaining solution and immediately rinse off the solution using a garden hosepipe. Ensure all the solution is removed.
Don’t be tempted to use a jet wash as you may risk damaging the deck surface due to the high pressure some jet wash machines can produce.
This is a great time of year for inspiration and a good time for planning, by walking around your garden and looking for potential problems and things you would like to change.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) offers some great gardening tips for March.
We hope these helpful deck cleaning tips will be useful giving your more information on how to maintenance your ecodek® keeping it in tip-top condition.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding cleaning your ecodek® please contact us directly and we will be more than happy to discuss them with you. Take a look at the Aftercare section on our website for further information.
Not cleaning your deck may promote fungal growth which may impact upon your product warranty.
This week’s feature image is from last year’s episode of ITV’s Love Your Garden, where ecodek® Heritage in Welsh Slate was used to transform the garden of the very deserving recipient, Irene. You can read more about her amazing work and the beautiful garden transformation here.
Hopefully this beautiful weather will continue and everyone can get out into their garden space, whatever its size and shape, and perhaps you’ll utter ‘Tra-la, la-la, la-la, lay; Sweep the old dead leaves away!’
