A Beginner’s Guide to Fitting an ecodek Composite Deck – Part 3
So now comes the technical bit; laying your deck boards! But don’t worry we will try to make it as painless as possible.
Of course you will need to refer to your own design whilst laying your ecodek boards, however there are a few key points to remember.
You must leave a minimum space of 5mm between each board and where a board meets a wall. This will allow for airflow and evaporation around your deck and to ensure there is plenty of space for the natural expansion and contraction associated with wood polymer products.
But don’t forget; these gaps will need to be increased to 10mm in hot, humid, damp or poorly ventilated areas!
Now all your boards are laid, it’s time to fix them down. You will need to drill and countersink your ecodek colour coated composite decking screws using a SMART-BIT (available from ecodek) will allow you to do this in one quick motion!
But remember you must NOT;
- Lay your boards directly onto a non-self-draining surface without consulting with our technical department first;
- Butt boards up closer than advised; or
- Use hidden fixings or clips
So, now all your hard work has finally paid off, you’re ready to relax on your alternative outdoor living space. But don’t forget to check back next week for tips on how to keep your ecodek looking fresh all year round!
N.B. Please note the above is only a guide; therefore please refer to our Technical Information (available via our website) whilst installing ecodek.
