Today at Ecodek towers we are celebrating FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) FSC Friday raises awareness of the responsible management of forests and the role that FSC plays within it.
FSC was founded in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC label gives assurance that wood, paper and other forest products have been responsibly sourced from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials.
FSC Friday is celebrated in order to raise awareness and educate people of the value of FSC and the vital role forests play in our lives and to encourage people to look out for the FSC logo and buy FSC certified products.
ecodek® has been FSC certified since 2011. Ecodek purchase timber and wood products from other FSC and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified companies. We can even prove to you that our product has been made with timber from sustainable and well-managed forests.
Last year’s celebrations saw businesses, schools, scouts and NGO’s who took part with positive engagements on social media. FSC International coordinated a successful global thunderclap. Companies celebrated tweeting photos of their events and making forest themed cakes including Conifer Truffle Cakes – sounds interesting!
This year we are celebrating FSC Friday by submitting a photo for the Best Photo of our FSC Certified Product which is our feature image for this week.
In a couple of months’ time we are hoping to assist with a tree planting project which will be ran by the North Wales Wildlife Trust. Watch this space for a further blog post on this event!
It’s a busy week as it’s also Recycling week which runs from 25th September to 1st October.
Recycle week is organised by WRAP under the Recycle Now brand and the aim of the week is to encourage the public to recycle more, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home.
We are all doing out bit at ecodek towers! Did you know that ecodek offers an exclusive waste buy back scheme? This allows us to buy back any offcuts you may have. Making you some money and letting us recycle the material to be used again to produce more ecodek!
Look out for a further blog post on how you can save energy and money at the same time in the home and with your vehicle
Since doing our beach clean day in Llandudno, in Wales, Environmental Minister Lesley Griffiths AM has told Sky News that she’s considering a deposit return scheme and a ground-breaking plastic tax. If the proposals get the go ahead in Cardiff, this could be implemented as early as next year or the year after. The Scottish Government has already vowed to introduce a scheme.
Deposit return schemes are popular in Norway and have been dramatic where 96% of bottles are returned and recycled compared to around half in the UK.
